Bottom line here is this; people who collect art don't spend millions on a Van Gogh because they like the way it looks, they do so for its rarity and collectible value. If anyone could get one then nobody would want one.

My oppinion as a collector:
  • Rare skin = moderately expensive
  • Rare skin with good INHERENT damage mod = very expensive and highly wanted
  • Rare skin with good INHERENT damage mod and low req = extremely expensive and even more wanted
  • Rare skin with inscription slot = lame and not bought buy collectors, and unlike non-inscribable rare skins will drop in value to next to nothing very quickly when their novelty wears off becasue ALL of them are perfect.

ANet please stop taking away from the collectors, "casual gamers" allready have everything they could possibly need.

/waits for ANet to "fix" wands next

By the way when do I get my free rank 12 for sitting on my but doing nothing?

So what exactly are the people complaining about the lack of grind complaining about then? Your post didnt disprove my point that people are complaining for nothing for the wrong reasons.

Um...i dont know about that....I would think people would buy a Van Gogh not because its rare, but because its by Van Gogh. Van Gogh was awesome :P

It wouldnt matter how many Van Goghs there were, its a Van Gogh and thats enough to give it a high value.

Then as a "collector" spend your millions on the non-inscribable version? Let the casual players get their inscribable versions you deem worthless. >.>

Sorry about that...

I imagine that they ebay because they're lazy, impatient, or a combination of both...

Then again, maybe they see some sense in spending 1 hour of real labor vs. hours of virtual labor.

I'm confused now.

For those who keep saying that we just "want everything for doing nothing" just stop. That's idiotic and a stupid exaggeration and you know it.

They already have it, it's called Guild wars 2007

@Herb; Don't let the people who can't understand why collectors enjoy collecting work you into an all caps frenzy It is obvious that they can't and never will understand just as they couldn't understand when we were trying to tell them what inscriptions would do before they implemented them.
Hell even some of the whiners in that 90+ page thread said they could at least leave crystallines out of their "gimme everything I want" rant.

GfingG Anet.

Just when I thought Anet couldn't sabotage the game anymore than they had. I think secretly they look for ways to get us to play wow.

Someone please explain to me why in the name of God would they make the rarest item into a blazing wing wand. Gold Crystallines ONLY come from HOH for a damn reason why in the hell would they make them inscription items. Sorry if this seems over the top but for Christs sake how stupid are they in Anetland.

I'm sorry, but when did this game ever advertise itself as "Economy Wars."

Who cares.

Something I learned from working in the food industry. You want to have the most employees and the best employees working during the peak periods, to better service the majority of your customers. That doesn't mean during off-peaks you hand out crap service, but that it maybe wasn't as good as it could be. Yeah, you're going to get more complaints during off-peaks, but thats to be expected.

I see ANet doing the same thing, the majority of Guild Wars players cannot buy a Crystalline, in fact, the majority of them have probably never actually seen one in-game. So why shouldn't they make this item less rare? What makes it more special than any other sword? Really they should just get rid of rares altogether, its a stupid idea thats got stuck into every RPG for some reason, but thats a whole nother topic.

Face it, you're the minority, and ANet doesn't really care how much you cry about it. They're going to cater to the majority, and thats us poor people who have never even seen a Crystalline.

So, heres to more inscribable rare drops, and to that new green crystalline sword in the next GW chapter.

For a person saying "who cares" you seem pretty worked up at the fact not all share your view of the rarest sword being dumbed down for the lazy.

Like it or not there is an economy and will be till gw goes offline. Many people continue playing the game after the luke warm storyline for items ... deal with it.

That's the point some people here are making. That is exactly what they have been doing since the silly inscription idea rolled out and this is one more step in that direction.
The fact that there are less people who enjoy one aspect of the game sounds like a great reason to take that away from them

It really is pointless to even try to have a conversation with the "majority" since it always comes down to statements like yours.
I don't like it so who gives a shit if anyone else does

The problem is that inscribable crystallines don't cater to poor people, they cater to the middle-class (~300k) people who can't figure out how to make money faster. Assuming crystallines drop to what the prices of other middle/high-end weapons are, most people still won't be able to afford them. You're just going to be seeing wammos and monks with farm builds running around spamming their leet swords, similar to what you see with Chaos Axes and Fellblades.

I was just thinking about the Van Gogh thing earlier.

I have a poster of Starry Night by Van Gogh.

I have also seen the actual painting Starry Night by Van Gogh.

I dont see how having posters, postcards, copies (one of my friends in college painted a copy of Starry Night) brings the value of the original down.

Its like comparing a bootleg to an original. Its never gonna be worth as much, mean as much, or hold as much esteem.

And now that they STOPPED dropping, shouldn't those older genuine crystallines become MORE collectible to the real collectors?

--------------

This really reminds me of the whole Takara Binaltech Transformers versus the Hasbro Alternators. The Binaltech version is diecast, and the Alternators version is plastic.

I would rather have the diecast version, but the plastic version is pretty good by itself.

Any real collector would own both though.....

------------

Maybe we need some rarer, harder to get vanity skins...

Worked up? How so? Unlike your previous post where you call ANET stupid, his post was calm and didnt call people names.

And here we go again with the "lazy" label... I'm sorry that most people can't or won't spend millions of gold for a sword. Does that really make them lazy?

But really I dont give a damn about crystallines or any other "elite" item out there, I just find it irritating that people kick and scream about it being "cheaper" now and how ANET is "ruining the game" Overreact much?

When Anet comes a long and nerfs something you care about remind me to tell you to calm down. They are doing a damn fine job of killing why many of us play this game. PvP been there done that .. PvE beat any chapter in 2-3 days. Collect items .. make them worthless and there isnt anything to collect. Pardon me if I am pissed that those that won't apply the effort to get things others work for are dictating the future of this game. You want things cheap with next to no effort. Next up make fow 1.5k and no materials required right?

Nope. I don't go ballistic because it's just a game. And there hasnt been anything that happens that can't be adapted to. Collecting items isnt fun if the items are worthless? How so? I collect kappa shells because I have a strange love for turtles. Why let the value of items dictate your fun in collecting stuff?

And who exactly isnt "applying effort to get things?" Who exactly dictates how much effort is needed to get things? You say that you don't like people dictating the future but it sounds like you're doing the same. And how exactly does the amount of effort of others hinder your own efforts?

And who said they wanted to make FOW 1.5k? And I NEVER said that I "want things cheap with next to no effort" Stop making exaggerations and lies. If you want to make a point, do so without making stuff up.

As it happens, Anet has every reason to hate you people who grind.

Think about it simply. Anet receives the same amount of cash from every player per expansion regardless of how much they play.

So income is constant with regards to number of hours played.

However, costs due to server maintenance accumulate faster when more people are on, based on the number of hours that each of them spend on. Therefore, cost varies based on playtime.

In conclusion, from a STRICTLY financial point of view (ignoring the value of a committed community), Anet has every reason to reduce grind and to create disincentives to those who play overmuch.

More importantly, I want them to make my 15k hydro pimp suit (and the rest of my Ascalon gear) inscribe-able. WTF are they wasting time on a sword .001% of the population even cares about?

EDIT:

If you people hate the game because you have everything, try handing out all your cash, deleting all your characters, and starting again. Here's a hint: you won't be able to solo farm UW this time around.
